The Chilkoot Trail is the original backpacker’s route to the far North, crossing some of the most spectacular and diverse landscapes anywhere in the world. This year, due to the floods that greatly damaged the USA side of the trail, we are unable to operate our regular program. Instead, we have built a new itinerary using the Canadian side of the trail only. Rest assured that the experience will still be magical. Visitors are capped to ensure the trail does not become so crowded. We have allowed five days to backpack the Canadian side of the trail, ensuring time to rest, explore, and revel in the scenery. Our final destination is Lake Bennett, where most stampeders paused to build rafts and wooden boats for river journey to Dawson. Here, at the historic ghost town, we’ll meet a float plane for a final trip over the last of the Coast Mountains to Whitehorse.

Day 1: Arrival in Whitehorse

Your guide will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in downtown Whitehorse. The rest of the day is at your leisure. There are many interesting things to discover in Whitehorse. You can visit the longest wooden fish ladder in the world, the Beringia Centre for a glimpse of pre-historic Yukon and Alaska, the nearby Yukon Transportation Museum, or MacBride’s Museum of Yukon history. We also highly recommend a visit to the SS Klondike National Historic Site, a restored sternwheeler located next to the Yukon River. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Whitehorse)

Day 2: Whitehorse - Upper Lindeman Camp

We are meeting our float plane on Schwatka Lake at 9 AM this morning. The pilot will take us to the end of Bennett Lake. Get ready for some incredible views all along the way as we will fly over parts of the Yukon River and magnificent mountain ranges. Once arrived at Bennet we will get started on the trail and hike to our first camp Upper Lindeman.
Hiking about 12km / elevation about 100m /

Day 3: Upper Lindeman Camp - Happy Camp

Today is a perfect day for pictures and getting adjusted to our gear. We will walk through beautiful sections of the Boreal Forest and make our way towards the alpine. We will cross beautiful rivers and the vegetation will slowly change once we will get close to Happy Camp. We will get to camp early and get a good rest because the next day will be our biggest challenge.
Hiking about 8km / elevation about 300m /

Day 4: Happy Camp – Deep Lake Camp

We will wake up early and make our way towards the Chilkoot Pass. This section of the trail is absolutely mesmerizing. The alpine is a pristine and precious area, and the trail takes us through all kinds of beautiful sceneries. We will cross many glaciers-fed rivers and walk on the snowfields all the way to the Pass. Keep your eyes open for wildflowers and alpine lakes. From there, the view is incredible, you can imagine the stampeders loaded with their gear making their way into Canada. Then, we will make our way back with equally stunning views, and pass our previous camp before going all the way to Deep Lake.
Hiking about 18km / elevation about 400m /

Day 5: Deep Lake Camp Bare Loon Camp

We will walk again through Yukon’s boreal forest today as we make our way to Bare Loon Lake. This area is home to so much wildlife, it is not uncommon to see little creatures along the way. Once in camp, keep your eyes and your ears ready for these elusive birds.
Hiking about 10km / elevation about 200m /

Day 6: Bare Loon Camp Whitehorse

Already the last day of our adventure! We will wake up and make our way back to Bennett Lake after a good breakfast. Time to take it all in as we will walk over the sandy reminiscences of what Bennett Lake used to be. It is time to imagine the stampeders on the shores, building their raft to go down the Lake and then to the Yukon River. So much history in this area and you will have time to visit what is left of the town before our float plane brings us back to Whitehorse around 4PM. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Whitehorse)
Hiking about 6km / elevation about 50m /

Day 7: Departure Whitehorse

After breakfast, we’ll bring you to the airport for your flight south or connect you with your next adventure. (End of tour services) (This is an expedition style trip, and changes to the itinerary may be necessary due to weather or other conditions. Any changes are left to the discretion of the guide.)
