Day 1: Arrival in Anchorage

Participants arrive in Anchorage by their own arrangements. Welcome to Alaska! The local tour guide will greet and welcome participants at the airport. Transfer to the hotel. Connect with the rest of your tour group and get a first impression of what awaits during the weeks ahead. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Anchorage)

Day 2: Anchorage - Denali National Park

After breakfast, we leave Alaska's largest city. Our route takes us north along the George Parks Highway towards Denali National Park. Breathtaking scenery awaits us, with an ever-changing panorama: glaciers and mountain ranges in the distance and beaver dams in the nearby rivers. Those who wish to participate in an approximately one-hour glacier flight near Denali Mountain in the late afternoon have the opportunity to do so (optional). Day 3: Denali National Park

Without a doubt, a scenic highlight of your tour. In the morning, you'll depart on the Denali Shuttle that will take you into one of North America's most breathtaking landscapes. Weather permitting, you'll see the majestic Denali Mountain, at 6,193 meters (20,310 feet) the highest peak in the North America. The diverse wildlife is also very impressive: With a little luck, you might spot wolves, Dall sheep, moose, caribou, grizzly and black bears. (Overnight hotel accommodation near the park)

Day 4: Denali NP - Fairbanks

Back on the George Parks Highway, you'll reach Fairbanks, the City of the Midnight Sun, around midday. The afternoon in this city, located only about 200 miles from the Arctic Circle, is free to explore the local sights and the surrounding area. Fairbanks offers all the amenities of a great city experience: You can visit various museums that teach about Alaska's geology and history, or spend the afternoon strolling along the Chena River and through downtown Fairbanks. Day 5: Fairbanks - Dawson City

Leaving the urban environment, we travel south-east through beautiful scenery, passing countless rivers and lakes until we join the famous Alaska Highway in Delta Junction. Along the way you will see the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which crosses the Tanana River not far from the highway. You continue your journey through hilly landscape of boreal coniferous forest to the remote Top of the World Highway. Above the tree line, you will experience the tundra, travelling through endless alpine plateaus. Here you will cross the highest border crossing between Canada and the USA at Little Gold Creek. On the way, you will pass through towns with unusual names like Chicken or Jack Wade Camp, and at the end of the day, you will reach the Gold Rush town of Dawson City. Day 6: Dawson City

Located at the confluence of the Klondike and Yukon River, this historic town still sees people panning for gold, just like during the great gold rush in 1898. Those who are keen can try their luck at panning for gold. Step back in time to the adventurous era of the gold rush, visit the fascinating Dawson City Museum or the Jack London Cabin, stroll through the charming town with its picturesque buildings, some still original, others lovingly restored, and soak up the historic atmosphere. Day 7: Dempster Highway

Today puts us on the Dempster Highway with plenty of time to explore. This highway is Canada’s only road connection to the remote town of Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk at the Arctic Ocean. We will go as far as Tombstone Territorial Park, where dark and rugged mountains give the region its name. Marvel at the spectacular tundra landscape, which has a unique charm at any time of year. Day 8: Dawson City - Whitehorse

Today's leg of the journey takes you on the North Klondike Highway to Whitehorse. You'll see the mighty Yukon River repeatedly along the way. At nearly 3,200 kilometers long, it's one of the longest waterways in North America. You'll also visit the legendary Five Finger Rapids – a formidable stretch of rapids that proved fatal to many paddle steamers in the past. Historic lodges, old roadhouses, and small towns along the route serve as reminders of the great Gold Rush era over 100 years ago. Arriving in Whitehorse in the late afternoon, you'll have the opportunity to visit the nearby Miles Canyon, formed by basaltic lava flows. Day 9: Whitehorse

Today you have time to explore the Yukon Territory’s capital, with its approximately 30,000 inhabitants, on your own. Whitehorse offers a variety of attractions, and its numerous cultural institutions, restaurants, and shops are well worth a visit. Many Yukon residents come to Whitehorse to shop, so there's a wide selection of outdoor clothing, groceries, and local handicrafts. And of course, the great outdoors is never far away; there are approximately 700 km of hiking trails, many easily accessible from downtown. You could, for example, visit the world's longest wooden salmon ladder at the Whitehorse Dam, enjoy the Transportation or MacBride Museum, or stop by the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Station. Day 10: Whitehorse - Skagway

The journey continues south along the South Klondike Highway. Scenic attractions invite you to make short stops: For example, the Carcross Desert – the smallest desert in the world - or Emerald Lake, which captivates with its turquoise waters. Locals also refer to this lake as Rainbow Lake because of its sensational colour. Past the town of Carcross, at the border station of Fraser, you have the option of taking a unique train ride over the spectacular White Pass (optional). (Overnight hotel accommodation in Skagway).

Day 11: Skagway - Haines

Today we'll visit the gold rush town of Skagway and learn about its rich history. Afterwards, we'll take the ferry to Haines and enjoy some beautiful scenery while cruising through the northern end of the Inside Passage. Day 12: Haines

This day offers a choice between enjoying nature and taking short walks around Haines, or an optional excursion to Alaska's capital city, Juneau. A three-hour boat trip takes you through the Lynn Canal to Juneau, where you can explore the city and optionally the local glacier (Mendenhall Glacier). In the evening, the boat returns to Haines. During the rides, the fast ferry makes occasional stops along the way should there be any sightings of marine wildlife, such as whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, otters, puffins etc. (Overnight hotel accommodation in Haines)

Day 13: Haines - Haines Junction

Today we head back to Canada. Along the Haines Road, which connects Haines (Alaska) and Haines Junction (Canada), there are plenty reasons to stop frequently. The landscapes, views, and impressions you'll experience here are unforgettable. Upon arrival in Haines Junction, we'll take a short walk along the Dezadeash River. Day 14: Haines Junction - Kluane National Park

Today we have plans for some more short walks or hikes in the Kluane National Park. This national park, one of the largest and most beautiful in Canada, invites you to explore nature up close with trails spanning from short walks, to half- and full-day-hikes or even multi-day backcountry trekking trips. You also have the option of taking a scenic flight over Kluane National Park, home to the largest non-polar icefield in the world. Day 15: Haines Junction - Whitehorse

This morning offers another opportunity for a scenic flight over Kluane National Park (optional) before we travel along the Alaska Highway toward Whitehorse. En route, we'll stop for photos and at Long Ago People's Place, a small First Nations camp. We'll enjoy a guided tour and learn about the lives of the Indigenous people in Canada's far north. Time permitting, we might visit the Yukon Wildlife Preserve with its many native animals, go for a soak in the Eclipse Nordic Spa and Hot Springs, or enjoy a leisurely walk in the surroundings of Whitehorse (all optional). Day 16: Departure

The Yukon’s capital offers a wealth of options on the last day of your journey, such as shorter excursions around town or a final visit to some local attractions, such as the MacBride, Beringia or Transportation Museum or the wooden Fish Ladder. Those who simply want to relax or perhaps do some shopping before returning home, will also have ample time and opportunity today. Transfer to the Whitehorse Airport or individual onward travel arrangements. Please note that last-minute changes to the itinerary are possible and at the discretion of the tour guide.
